In Somalia, accused of raping and killing a child were executed
In northeastern Somalia, two men were shot for raping and killing a 12-year-old girl. This is reported by the Air Force Somalia. According to journalists of the television and radio company, the girl was abducted, raped and killed by a gang near her house in Galkayo, in the semi-autonomous region of Puntland, in February 2019. The case caused widespread outrage across the country with demonstrations demanding the arrest and punishment of those responsible. Ten suspects were initially arrested in the case, and in May 2019 the regional Supreme Court found three of them guilty. According to investigators, DNA tests were first used to convict them in Somalia. Two of Abdifat Abdirahman Warsame and Abdishakur Mohamed Didge were shot in a public square in Bosasso. A third convict, Abdisalam Abdirahman Warsame, Abdifata's brother, was pardoned despite being sentenced to death too. The dead girl's father, Ilyas Aden, told a Puntland state television correspondent that he had asked the court to postpone Abdisalam's execution for 10 days until his case was reviewed. This execution will serve as a serious lesson, and Somali girls will be safe, Aden said.
