Kosovo in the UN Security Council: Serbia is deceptively seeking reviews of Kosovo's recognition
On 24 April, Kosovo Foreign Minister Glavk Konyuftsa spoke on behalf of the Republic of Kosovo at an online meeting of the UN Security Council dedicated to discussing the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the Albanian news agency Telegrafi, during his speech Konyufica appealed to the UN countries that do not recognize Kosovo to recognize: Some of the states that are members of the UN do not recognize the state of Kosovo, but most of them recognized it, and therefore I call on you to recognize the Kosovo state in order to support peace in the region. Not Kosovo, but Serbia raised the issue of Kosovo's independence before the International Court of Justice, Serbia raised the issue and on its part is hypocrisy not to respect it, Konyuftsa said. Also in his speech, Konyuftsa demanded that Serbia report on the fate of missing Albanians, including Ukshina Hoti (an Albanian intellectual who disappeared shortly after his release from prison in Yugoslavia, news agency) and Kosovars who disappeared during the Yugoslav Wars, as well as the release of Nezir Mehmetai, now serving a prison sentence in Serbia. Our relations with Serbia are difficult, and these relations can be resolved only in the process of dialogue. We have abolished the duty, we have established a regime of reciprocity, and our position is clear, said Konyufz. The representative of Kosovo also accused Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic of carrying out a campaign to withdraw Kosovo's confessions: Ivica Dacic undertook a campaign in which he came to countries that recognized Kosovo's dependence and misled them about us. Dacic came to several states with lies. We demanded that he stop this campaign. Recall, Russia does not recognize the independence of Kosovo from Serbia, proclaimed in 2008. In 2010, at Serbia's request, the International Court of Justice issued an advisory opinion on Kosovo's declaration of independence from Serbia, according to which the declaration of Kosovo was not contrary to international law in 2008.
