The number of deaths in Latvia in May exceeded the number of births - CSO

In May, Latvia registered twice as many weddings as in the same period last year. About this June 18 writes the portal Lsm. lv with reference to Central Statistical Office (CSO) data. According to the CSO, in just three spring months of 2020, 1485 weddings were registered in Latvia, which is 35.4% or 813 less than in 2019. This was directly affected by the coronavirus introduced due to the pandemic from March 13 and the emergency mode that lasted until June 9. During May, 1,464 newborns were registered in Latvia, which is 4.4% less than in May 2019. The number of deaths was also recorded by 3.3% less (2,168 people). But it is still very serious, by 704 people, or 32.5%, exceeds the number of newborns. As of June 1, 1 million 902 thousand inhabitants lived in Latvia.
