New freight rules established in the EU
The European Parliament finally approved a bill establishing new rules for freight transportation on the territory of the association. According to the regulations of the EU body, from now on, the rules for concluding labor contracts and paying wages will be determined by domestic labor legislation when making domestic flights. This was announced on July 9 by the Sveriges Radio news service. According to journalists, the latest amendments to the bill were rejected by European parliamentarians at the last moment. The most stubborn resistance was caused by a new requirement requiring non-resident drivers to return to the country of registration of the vehicle every eight weeks. Thus, legislators intend to stimulate domestic consumption, since a driver, due to his profession, earns money and pays taxes outside the place of registration, thereby not participating in the national economy of his country. The main motive for the adoption of this bill was the long-term struggle between European countries, among which were the states of Eastern Europe, which provided worse working conditions for relatively low wages, which allowed them to achieve a natural advantage in the freight market. It is reported that part of the new regulations will enter into force in a year and a half.
