France plans to increase funding for scientific research

Deputies of the National Assembly began consideration of the Law on Scientific Research, which the French government presents as an opportunity for unprecedented investments. On Monday, September 21, reports Agence France-Presse. The law, which French Minister of Higher Education Frederick Vidal described as an opportunity for the most significant investment in science over the past 50 years, involves the provision of additional funds from the national budget of 25 billion euros for the development of science and research. In order, as the minister put it, to restore scientific sovereignty after a lost decade and not allow research to suffocate, and scientists to feel abandoned, the law, prepared more than a year ago by former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe and postponed several times in the long box, involves the allocation of 400 million euros for research in 2021, 800 million in 2022, 1.2 billion euros in 2023 and so on. According to the news agency, on September 4, Vidal announced the creation of 30 thousand new places in universities by the beginning of the next school year.
